All-New, All-Remote Avengers #21 – ‘Deftly Maneuver’

In the hallway of the Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) facility, Domino faces off against the airborne Whirlwind. At the bottom of the image, the title of this comic strip, "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'Deftly Maneuver'," is visible.
Whirlwind throws himself at Domino, and she ducks under his attack.
Domino fires her submachine guns at Whirlwind, declaring that her bullets are tuned to the same vibrational frequency at the arrow Hawkeye hit him with in the battle at New York City.
Whirlwind falls, and is temporarily out of the fight. Domino now turns her attention to the lone A.I.M. agent.
The A.I.M. agent offers to surrender, but Domino refuses. Instead, she throws her guns in the air, intending to knock out the A.I.M. agent before they fall to the floor.
Domino beats the A.I.M. agent senseless.
She catches her guns as they fall down, pumping the A.I.M. agent full of stun bullets.
Whirlwind has gotten his second, well, his second wind, and attacks Domino again.
Domino beats back his attack, and fires precisely into Whirlwind's eye. He falls down, again, screaming in pain.
On the top half of the page, Domino leaves Whirlwind writhing around on the floor, with a few choice words about the grudge she holds against Whirlwind, for their first fight. On the bottom half of the panel is the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Here we are, Part 4 of the big A.I.M. base assault! See Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 here, if you like!

Domino’s had to put up with a lot of crap over the course of this comic, I think we can all agree on that. Not having her priorities taken seriously by leadership (to the point that she quits the job she only reluctantly took in the first place), having to do most of the emotional labor in her relationship with War Machine, a “best friend” who’s only around on her terms, almost certainly being accused of being a sellout (or worse) off-panel… It’s not been the easiest year for the woman with the good luck powers. So, she gets to unload all that frustration – and a heck of a lot of stun bullets – into Whirlwind!

I tried to live up to the standards I set for these sorts of big, climactic team battles in the movies and TV shows I like, and make sure to give every member of “the team” something significant to do. This is certainly a less ambitious tale than, say, Rogue One, where everybody has to be part of a desperate, carefully-timed operation, but by the end, I think all of our current and former Avengers have been featured in at least one neat panel (and usually more)…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
