Marvel Short #12 – Anger Management

Posted on April 26, 2021September 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
Thor, on a video chat with the Canadian superhero Guardian, tries to explain why Wolverine doesn't want to speak with him. Guardian doesn't accept Thor's excuses.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Like numerous Elder Millennials(TM), the most impactful introduction to Marvel Comics that I had growing up was the X-Men animated series. Literal books have been written about that show – and The Art and Making of the Animated Series book is very good, indeed – so I won’t try to compose my own brief history of the show here. But, what I will say is that one of my very favorite episodes, “Repo Man,” made me fall in love with the Canadian super-team Alpha Flight, and particularly the design of Vindicator/Guardian’s costume (I think Vindicator’s a better name, but Guardian is a better name for a superhero that you actually want people to trust, so, here we are).

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
