All-New, All-Remote Avengers #16 – ‘The Evil Has Landed’

Posted on April 15, 2021September 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
On a video call, Domino and War Machine call Iron Man out for his performance in the previous comic strip's battle. The title of the strip, "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'The Evil Has Landed'," is visible in the bottom-left corner of the image.
War Machine inquires if Domino's health care coverage, through the Avengers, is still active, and Iron Man makes the Beast answer that question.
Beast confirms that Domino's coverage has lapsed, and War Machine makes a remark about how glad he was that Stark Industries' wasn't included in Wakandan vaccine production.
Iron Man and T'Chaka, the King of Wakanda, get in an argument about how they each do things, while Beast tries to keep his mouth shut.
As the argument is about to get more pitched, a strange green image breaks into the video feed, taking over everybody's screens and computer speakers.
The Leader reveals himself to the heroes on the conference call, with the captive J. Jonah Jameson at his side!
The element of drama undercut by his technical incompetence, The Leader cuts the video feed, leaving Iron Man, and everybody else, confused.
T'Chaka correctly identifies The Leader to the rest of the call participants, before Spider-Man cuts in, sending the current and former Avengers the location to where he tracked the Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) helicopter.
The StarkComm (the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe's service that's similar to, but legally distinct from, Zoom) call disconnect logo, thanking participants for using the service. The StarkComm slogan, "Two voices you trust: yours, and mine" (meant to refer to Tony Stark's perceived trustworthiness), is visible at the bottom of the image.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

The Leader’s doomed-from-the-start bombing of the video call was a moment I’d had in my head since the early days of this storyline. The fact that he kidnapped the least tech-savvy, least cinematically-fluent internet personality that he could find – J. Jonah Jameson – was the icing on the cake of this failed moment of villainous monologuing.

I always enjoy finding any opportunity that I can for somebody to call out Tony Stark in front of Iron Man, when he has to maintain the illusion of his secret identity and thus doesn’t have the ability to stand up for himself. That’s the price you pay for being a genius/billionaire/playboy/philanthropist who gets his kicks punching evil robots, Tony!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
