Marvel Short #2 – Thor Picks Up Ant-Man (Emotionally)

Posted on February 11, 2021September 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
Thor calls Ant-Man, "Man of Ants," and Ant-Man feels that implies that he only has the powers of all his older female relatives. Thor asks Ant-Man if that would actually be a bad thing, and encourages him to be proud of himself, and the people in his life.

Fat Thor, God of Thunder and Encouragement, makes his second appearance in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe, today.

I loved Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of Thor from the very first second he stepped onscreen, but I really felt like the losses he’d suffered, the trauma he’d undergone, and the way he’d finally stood up to the end of his family and the world by the end of Endgame offered the character some incredible possibilities, moving forward. I’m not in charge of the Marvel movies, obviously, but I am in charge of my little corner of the Internet, so I decided that Thor would dedicate some portion of the rest of his functionally eternal life to helping his friends attain some measure of the peace he’s found. Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
